Made2Manage Version 6.0 | | | Since it's been released, I've been asked several times, "Should we upgrade to version 6.0 of Made2Manage". The following information should give you all the details you need to help with that decision.
Where Do I get the disks needed to complete the upgrade? If you haven't already received the 6.0 disks, you can logon to M2MExpert.com, go to "Ask Expert" and fill out a brief order form. Made2Manage usually ships the upgrade disks within 2 business days.
What are the "New" Features Available in 6.0?
CRM Now included as part of the base product! - incorporating Sales Center features such as activities, opportunities, and document management. - Revamped RMA capabilities Enhanced Contract Pricing with the ability to mix contract and non-contract pricing on the same sales order, multiple contracts per sales order, and more. Shop Floor Management - Backflushing by operation - Mass Job Status Update functionality Materials Management and Scheduling - MRP + developed with the Planning and Scheduling engine (formerly referred to as 'Synchronizer engine'), now offers a significant performance increase, improved reliability and analysis perspective. Other enhancements include sales line item BOM components, sub-contract items, on-hand quantities of - Make and Buy items, visual pegging "trees". Purchasing RFQ capabilities include easily converting a vendor's quote to a purchase order, integration of the quoting and sales order process, and easier recording of vendor RFQ responses. Advanced Scheduling - Demand prioritization for CTP ensures that customer job orders should take priority in the CTP schedule over job orders building inventory or safety stock. Improved Data Integrity a number of change requests have been addressed to solve issues in the areas of: summary data errors in accumulator fields and transactions not updating all the fields in related tables. Sarbanes-Oxley audit trail enhancements such as encrypted password logging and protection, and ability for the admin to easily generate an audit table report.
What Types of Problems are Users Experiencing?: As you would expect with a major release of any software package there are issues. I have reviewed the user bulletin boards and all change requests associated with 6.0 to date and haven't found any show stoppers as yet. Issues with the CRM modules synchronization to Outlook, and various report problems seem to be the major complaints. Everything else appears to fall into the category of "typical Made2Manage issues" that make day to day processing a little more work than you may like, but don't prevent you from achieving your objectives.
Summary
This is a major release and should be entered into with caution. Indeed there are some new features (above) that are beneficial and provide proof that M2M continues to develop the product. To date I would describe known "bugs" as not being significant in nature, however remember we always want "someone else" to find the troubled spots.
Having said that my best advice would be this, if you are really interested in some of the new features, you're getting close to the time when you're probably okay to move forward. If your goal is to keep up with current revisions as they are released and aren't driven by the enhancements, you would be best advised to wait another month or two. I usually like to wait about 6 months after a new release before feeling comfortable that we can safely move forward.
Hope this finds you all well and helps you with the upgrade decision process, and that you are all making it through the economic downturn successfully!
